Happy Valentine's Day

"Love is what makes the world go 'round." So true. We all crave that feeling of loving another and being loved.

There's proof that we also "need" love in our life. It is when we interact with others in an intimate way that we satisfy an innate need in our nature. Connection with others feeds our soul ... and also challenges us. It is in an intimate relationship that our inner sore spots are touched. If we remain conscious in the relationship, we will learn where our sore spots are and then we can begin to heal them.

The relationship we have with ourselves is even more important. It is difficult for many, but accepting ourselves "just as we are" is necessary for that unconditional love. There are a couple things that have helped me see myself as worthy of that love.

  • Picture yourself as a child. Hold that picture in your mind as you send loving feelings to you, the child. Tell that child that you love him/her and you'll always be there, no matter what the circumstances, to support him/her.
  • Stand before the mirror. With your clothes off, find parts of yourself that are beautiful. Perhaps you have sparkling blue eyes or shiny hair or a ripe, curvy body. It may be difficult to begin finding your assets, but once you get started, it becomes easier.

Make today a celebration of the love you have for that one that you will spend this lifetime with ... yourself! When you have love for yourself, you'll have lots of love to give others.
